What Artistic Swim Athletes Learn

Athletes swim choreographed routines to the sounds of music heard underwater while executing precision-timed gymnastic movements. They learn valuable life skills to take into their world of family life, school, and workplaces, such as cooperation, leadership skills and teamwork.  They increase their memorization skills, courage, self-discipline, perseverance, and time management. They also develop showmanship and performance skills and good sportsmanship by performing in water shows and competitions. In addition, to enhance their theatrical skills, they enthusiastically wear costumes and hairpieces designed to represent their routine’s theme. Athletes have a blast expressing themselves artistically, which, when all combined, causes their confidence to soar and inspires their inner champion!

We offer multiple classes at North Central Florida YMCA and Sun Country Sports Center – West for Novice, Intermediate, and Junior Olympic levels.

With several options to choose from, there’s a class that’s a perfect fit for you and your family!

I met Crystalia after my daughter completed two years of synchronized swimming with a previous coach and had the good fortune of having her coach my daughter for two subsequent years. As my daughter’s coach, I found her to be excellent, far exceeding any expectations I may have had. Crystalia boosted team morale with her dedication, positive attitude, and encouraging nature, fast becoming well-loved and liked by students and parents alike. As a coach, Crystalia demonstrated the utmost professionalism, which was even more impressive given her youth. Her dedication to the team and her willingness to go above and beyond indicated to us parents that this was not merely a job to her but a calling. The team thrived under her guidance and showed consistent improvement, going on to claim victories in regional meets.  In addition to her duties as coach, Crystalia also mentors young coaches and serves as a role model of good sportsmanship, discipline, and service.

My granddaughter, Chloe, joined an artistic swimming team in 2016 at the age of 13. She was older than most beginning swimmers, but she quickly fell in love with the sport. It was the perfect mix of performance art and swimming, two of her favorite activities. Chloe continued on the team for over three years and only gave it up due to the pressures of high school. During Chloe’s time on the team, I watched her develop into a beautiful swimmer and athlete. Chloe was coached by Crystalia for the last three years, and the influence Crystalia had on Chloe during that time was phenomenal. Crystalia was more than a coach. She was the best role model I could have hoped for Chloe. Crystalia’s passion for the sport, her morals, her strong character, and her work ethic are all exemplary. The athletes who work with Crystalia learn a lot more than how to do a ballet leg or a 720-degree spin. They learn how to care for others, be a team, work hard, recognize their accomplishments no matter how small, and, most importantly, accept others. I am sure most coaches address these areas, but Crystalia’s kind and caring heart is her greatest gift to others. I am thankful that my granddaughter had Crystalia as a coach!

Artistic swimming and Crystalia Blake’s coaching have had an immeasurable impact on my life. Coach Crystalia works to create a positive, welcoming environment for athletes of all kinds. I came to this sport from a somewhat toxic dance experience and was really happy to see that this team didn’t follow a similar path. In the six years I have swum, I’ve learned to work well with others and overcome physical and emotional challenges. The acceptance of this team helped me gain confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills, in addition to introducing me to some of my closest friends.

There wasn't a more perfect sport for my daughter!  She was allergic to grass and hated sweating.  However, she loved the water, music, and dance, so Synchronized Swimming was a match made in heaven.  The sport in and of itself is incredibly challenging but provides great opportunities for strength training, endurance, flexibility, and creative expression.  It was something my daughter could dive right into as a novice without any experience and grow to eventually end up competing in the National Junior Olympics with her teammates.  While we fell in love with the sport, it was Coach Crystalia that sealed the deal.  Her loving, all-inclusive, "come-as-you-are" approach to the sport and the swimmers made us 100% confident in our decision to have our daughter start and continue with the Synchronized Swimming program.  I would highly encourage any parent who is looking for a sport to nurture both the athletic and creative sides of their child to explore the incredible world of Synchro.  Coach Crystalia makes magic happen in the water for these swimmers, and it shows in their smiles and the bonds of friendship they create over the years.

Aqua Angel's head coach, Crystalia, has been an exceptional coach for our daughter for 7 years now! Our daughter knew very little about artistic (synchronized) swimming when she started through a "try-it" program. It is a uniquely challenging sport, but Crystalia's style of coaching has effectively taught the steps that have grown her skills in figures that lead into fun choreography in the routines for competitive meets.

The Aqua Angels’ coaching staff is the greatest! Coaches Crystalia and Zaira bring knowledge, compassion, and fun to practice. In addition, they strive to meet the needs and aspirations of each swimmer on the team. As a result, the athletes feel supported and valued as they work together to achieve their individual and team goals. My daughter has worked with Crystalia and Zaira for 6 years and has gone from a novice who could barely dive in from the side of the pool to a confident age group swimmer who competed at the National Junior Olympic meet. Along the way, she has learned so much about artistic swimming, teamwork, and herself, but more importantly, she has had a blast.
